An Heirloom Cradle and an 8-Month-Old Baby Boy
Time moves too quickly, especially in the first year of a baby's life. My youngest grandson is now almost eight months old—sitting up and on the verge of crawling, eager to explore the world around him. Today, my daughter brought him to the house so we could freeze this fleeting moment in time.
A beautiful antique cradle I recently purchased became the perfect setting for his portraits. Its worn wood and timeless charm carried whispers of the past, a piece of history cradling the newest branch of our family tree. Every little expression—his curiosity, his fleeting smiles became part of the story we were capturing.
His two-year-old brother, full of energy and love, couldn't resist joining in for a few frames. These are the moments that make time stand still.
Photographing my grandson at this stage, in this cradle, felt like capturing a bridge between generations—one where history and childhood meet in a single, precious frame. This is why I do what I do—to hold onto moments that might otherwise slip away, preserving them as art that tells a story for years to come.
An Antique Toddler Bed Becomes the Heart of My Grandson’s Portraits
For the second setting of my grandson’s portraits, we placed him in a beautiful antique toddler bed—a piece rich with history, having cradled countless little ones over the years. The timeless charm of this vintage bed made it the perfect setting to capture his sweet innocence at this precious age.
Knowing this special little guy was coming for his pictures, I spent the week crocheting a patchwork baby blanket to drape across the bed, adding a personal and sentimental touch to his portraits.
One of my favorite moments was when his big brother joined him, sharing a book. It was the perfect way to capture their bond—an older brother lovingly introducing his baby brother to one of his favorites. These portraits tell a beautiful story of childhood, brotherhood, and the fleeting magic of these early years.
Baby Portraits in Black and White
When my daughter asked me to take a few portraits of my grandson against a white background and convert them to black and white, I couldn’t say no. While this isn’t my usual style for children’s portraits, I’ll do just about anything for my kids! So, we took a few moments to create this special set.
Since I have a deep love for color photography, I decided to include both versions in the gallery. Each has its own unique beauty—black and white highlights the timeless details, while color captures the warmth and vibrancy of the moment.
I hope you enjoy this little glimpse of my grandson at 8 months old!
